Otolaryngology

Otolaryngology

Overview

Otolaryngology focuses on the treatment and disorders of the ears, nose, throat, head and neck. Otolaryngologists are often called “ENTs” because of the common areas they treat. ENT Specialists are medical doctors (MD) or doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO) who may be certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.

Ear Procedures

Myringotomy with or without Tube Placement

The surgeon makes a precise cut to the eardrum to drain fluid. This procedure often includes insertion of ventilation (PE) tubes to help the fluid continue to drain after surgery.

Tympanoplasty

Surgery to repair a hole in the eardrum.

Nose Procedures

Septoplasty

Straightening of the cartilage in your nose, called the Septum. This procedure improves airflow.

Rhinoplasty

Surgical reshaping of the nose for cosmetic or functional reasons.

Turbinate Reduction

Shrinking or removing the tissue in the nasal passage (turbinates) to relieve frequent stuffiness and allow the patient to breathe more easily.

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Throat Procedures

Tonsillectomy

Removal of the tonsils, the fleshy masses seen on the left and right side at the back of your throat. These are often removed for recurrent infections or obstructive sleep apnea.
